When Herman Miller hired Nelson as design director in 1945, they didn’t just hire a designer—they handed him the future of the company. Nelson helped shape the entire direction of American modern design, bringing in talents like Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi, and Alexander Girard.

But alongside that role, Nelson was designing furniture of his own.

This dresser is part of his early case furniture work for Herman Miller—clean, functional, and built around the idea that modern homes needed better storage.

Seventy years later, it still feels contemporary!
