Where are all our Appaloosa lovers? 🐴

Meet Iony- a striking mare with plenty of personality and a whole lot of confidence! She takes new obstacles in stride, whether it's tarps overhead, pool noodle gates, or other training challenges. Brave, curious, and level-headed, she's happiest with a consistent routine but is always willing to leave her herd for a training session. One of our volunteers (Kathy, pictured) has enjoyed working with Iony a few days a week and giving her one-on-one time! ❤️

Iony is barefoot, pasture sound, and also enjoys light groundwork. She's made wonderful progress building confidence away from her herd and is ready to find someone who appreciates her for exactly who she is.

Happy Fourth of July! ❤️🤍💙

From all of us at DEFHR, we hope your day is filled with laughter, time spent with loved ones, and moments that make summer special.

Thank you for being part of our herd and for believing that every horse deserves a second chance. Because of your support, horses like us receive the care, compassion, and fresh start we need to thrive.

Whether you're spending today relaxing, making memories, or simply enjoying the sunshine, we hope you have a safe and wonderful Independence Day.

With grateful hearts (and a few hopeful nickers),

❤️🐴 The Horses at DEFHR

🌟 A big thank you to one of our incredible Equine Ambassadors, Rodgers Regent, for helping make the first week of Legacy Summer Camp such a success!

Whether he's introducing campers to the world of horses, patiently standing for endless pets, or helping build confidence in young equestrians, Rodgers has a special way of making a lasting impression on everyone he meets.

Our Equine Ambassadors are the heart of DEFHR's education and outreach programs. They are the physical embodiment of our mission, helping teach compassionate horse care at our main facility while serving as four-legged advocates against equine cruelty at community events, festivals, expos, and educational programs throughout the year.

Thanks to horses like Rodgers, we're able to inspire the next generation of horse lovers and share the importance of kindness, responsible horsemanship, and equine welfare with thousands of people each year.

Thank you, Rodgers, for being such an amazing teacher, ambassador, and friend. ❤️🐴

Before ➡ After ❤

When Dorothy arrived at DEFHR after being seized by animal control as a neglect case, she was underweight and in need of the care every horse deserves. With proper nutrition, veterinary care, and plenty of TLC, Dorothy has made a beautiful transformation.

Today, she's healthy, thriving, and ready for her next chapter: 🏠 a loving home to call her own.
