Darcy Kuemper shows exactly why head control matters.

Watch how he turns his head before his feet, every time. That sequencing lets him assess the play and gather as much information as possible before moving his body.

He gets tangled up with a Tampa forward while pushing into the glove side post and hits his blade lock. Kuemper doesn't get deterred. He stays patient, seals the ice anyway, and builds his vertical coverage right on top of it.

Broken play, deflects off one of his own guys in front, and goes to the Tampa player at the back door. Kuemper is already there.

Head first, feet second, patience through contact.
