Who shows up when life falls apart? Job lost everything—his wealth, his children, his health—yet his friends came running. They sat with him in the ashes for seven days without saying a word. That's the kind of friendship God calls us to.
But here's the challenge: Are we the friend who just shows up, or the one who says "let me know if you need anything" and disappears? The Bible commands us to share each other's burdens—not because it's convenient, but because it's obedience to Christ. When we inconvenience ourselves for others, we're fulfilling the law of love.
Be careful not to judge those who are suffering. Job's friends assumed his pain was punishment for sin, but they were wrong. God wants us to build people up, not tear them down with religious spirits. There's a hurting world that needs Christ-following friends who will get in the weeds with them.
This week, ask yourself: Am I the friend I would want to have? Am I speaking accurately about God, or just sharing my opinion? Let's be salt and light in a dark world.
