Interesting Insect Fact!

Common name: Eyed Click Beetle
Scientific name: Alaus oculatus

Eyed Click Beetles, also known as the Eyed Elater, have two “false eyes” that make predators hesitate to attack. The click beetle’s real eyes are much smaller and positioned behind the antennae, on the insect’s true head.

This beetle has a hinged joint between the head and thorax which allows the insect to arch its back and snap the hinge sending itself several inches off the ground allowing it flip over in scenarios it ever found itself stuck on its back.
