On May 7, NW Works staff and team members had the privilege of attending the first national CAST for Kids event held specifically for adults with disabilities! Today, our team was honored with the presenting of a plaque that recognized our participation at the event and commitment to creating positive life-long memories at community experiences. NW Works is proud to play a role in creating opportunities for adults with disabilities to participate fully in their communities, but we'd be amiss not to thank Mr. Steven Shafran, the Event Coordinator, and the CAST for Kids Foundation! Steven poured his time, energy, and enthusiasm into the event and thanks to him, our team is still talking about their fishing experience! Thank you, Steven, and the CAST for Kids Foundation for ensuring team members at NW Works are involved in meaningful community activities!

Skill development is always happening at NW Works, often in the everyday moments that bring our team together. In preparation for our annual summer cookout, several team members worked alongside their DSPs to prepare the fruit salad and garden salad. This meal prep activity provided meaningful opportunities for growth and confidence building.

With guidance and encouragement, team members practiced kitchen safety, followed multi-step directions, strengthened fine motor skills, and learned about healthy ingredients. Just as importantly, they collaborated, communicated, and supported one another.

Our cookout may have celebrated the start of summer, but we're just as proud to have the opportunity to celebrate our team members as they build skills, develop confidence, and maximize their independence!

Staff and team members at NW Works enjoyed a cookout today as we prepare for summer! We picked the perfect day to do it with beautiful weather, and no rain in sight— other than some light drizzles from our water games! Our annual cookout provides a change in pace for our team and an opportunity to come together and enjoy good food, interactive games, and good company. We even had some music therapy outside thanks to music therapists Allison and Farren. Thanks to our team for their help with event preparation, cooking and serving! Enjoy some pictures of our annual cookout!

In recognition of Memorial Day, NW Works will be closed Monday (5/25/26). On Monday, we will remember and honor the service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Our thoughts are with the families of fallen service members, and we extend our gratitude to current service members, along with past and fallen veterans. NW Works will reopen on Tuesday, May 26th.
