If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it's a duck..
Yep.
But if it looks like Marans, clucks like Marans and lays a white egg...Guess what. It's not Marans.
It's the same with Ameraucana, same with many breeds that have specific breed traits.
Just because a bird looks like a pure breed doesn't mean that it is.
You cannot breed Pekin to Cayuga and create Black Swedish.
They may "look" like black Swedish, but there is more to a breed than color.
Breeding a mixed flock and labelling ducklings or chicks as breeds based on what they look like is misleading.
It may not affect anything if they are going for pets or layers, but it can ruin a breeding program.
Mixed flocks produce mixed offspring, and while they may look pure, when bred together, they will not breed true and it will be obvious with the resulting offspring.
Ask to see the breeder flock.

Hatching season is officially over in a few more weeks when the last ducklings hatch.

Is anyone else done for the year?

Little update.
I opened up Facebook this morning and it consisted of drama 🥵
That 50 cent per day that I make isn't worth getting into an argument with someone ignorant so I'll make my post and go back to real life chores. 😂
Anyhow. Lots of available ducks here of many breeds.
I have a few breeder flocks available to make room for lots of project varieties I have in store for next year.
Each variety takes a different breeding pen and I already have enough of those 😂
My prices for drakes start at $20 and go up depending on quality unless you'd like to buy my extra drakes in bulk and I'll give you a killer deal.
Ducks that are coop ready start at $40 and go up depending on quality.
Breeder quality pairs start at $80 and go up to $200 depending on breed.
It will be Fall before I have many breeder quality pairs to offer. They need to grow up a bit so I can look for disqualifications.
As part of downsizing a bit, I do have a some adults available.
I have a few nice pairs of Black East Indies.$150 per pair. They are about a year old and the Ducks do have a little bit of white which is normal. Extra drakes are $50.
I do have a few extra breeder quality Saxony ducks for $80 each. I don't have any spare drakes at the moment.
Extra Ancona ducks from my breeder pen. Several colors $50 each
I have my Buff flock available
My Golden Cascade flock is available
Chocolate cuckoo orpington flock is available.
With over 50 breeds and varieties of ducks, we have a lot to choose from
Feel free to give us a call or shoot us a text
Have a great day everyone ☀️

I have had a bumper crop of cinnamon and white Indian Runners this year 🦆 🦆 🦆 🦆
These carry only one blue gene so they are a bit darker than fawn and white :)
These are not a standard variety for exhibition .
They are approximately 3 months old.
Due to no shows, I will not hold on a promise.
I require either a non-refundable deposit, or a pickup date within 2 days.
Ducks are $40
Drakes are $20.
Pick up is in Wilson North Carolina.

If you inspire to produce quality, you probably won't obtain your exhibition quality flock at the auction or by going online to purchase 5 females and a male.
Breeding is harder than just throwing birds that look the same together and offering chicks or ducklings. Each bird has faults and you must know enough about the breed to make breeding decisions.
"Well, It says on their website their flock is exhibition quality and has been looked at by a judge"
I'm here to tell you that there's no way that somebody has 400 birds of one single breed that are all exhibition quality producing 90% offspring that do not meet the breed standard.
People are dishonest for a dollar every single day.

Pictured is a young, bred to standard of perfection Barred Plymouth Rock, a far cry from what is usually seen offered as "Barred Rocks"
