The baby is closing their glottis to try and create PEEP to keep the alveoli open and improve oxygen exchange. We can see it in things like transient tachypnea of the newborn, RDS, pneumonia, and pneumothorax. Babies make all sorts of noises, but this is one of those noises that should warrant an evaluation by the pediatrician or NICU team
