*** OFFICIAL MEDIA RELEASE ***
WILLS POINT, TEXAS:
Severe flooding has impacted the City of Wills Point and surrounding rural areas following heavy rainfall overnight.
During the late evening hours and early morning hours, the Wills Point Police Department, Wills Point City Marshal’s Office, and the Wills Point Fire Department conducted a residential high-water rescue in the 1400 block of Pecan Avenue. Responders navigated floodwaters exceeding 4.5 feet in depth with a strong current.
Through the coordinated efforts of these agencies, responders successfully located and rescued a family of four along with their household pets.
Joint operations also allowed responders to assist with the evacuation of several additional residents in the affected area.
If you or someone you know has been affected by the storm or flooding, please contact the American Red Cross for assistance at 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767).
As we approach the spring season, which often brings increased severe weather, now is an important time for families to review emergency preparedness plans. Residents are encouraged to meet with family members, stock necessary supplies, and—particularly for those living in flood-prone areas—develop and review evacuation plans.
At this time, we are thankful to report no injuries related to this incident and we continue to hope and pray for the safety of all residents.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to all assisting agencies for their support and response efforts throughout the rural areas of our community.
