It's Black Maternal Health Week and we want to highlight a truth: Black Maternal Health Week is not only about what happens in hospitals and clinics. It is also about whether Black families actually have the material support they need to survive, recover, and care for themselves and their children with dignity.

That is part of why Liberation Place exists.

Liberation Place is a mutual aid project of Kansas Birth Justice Society, a Black and Brown-led nonprofit focused on birth justice, maternal and infant health equity, and building community-rooted systems of support for families in Kansas. Our work at Liberation Place is grounded in the long tradition of mutual aid modeled by the Black Panthers and generations of our ancestors and changemakers who came before us. They, and we, correctly understand that when systems fail our people, we must build what our communities need. No barriers. No questions. No surveillance. Just solutions.

If you believe in this work, we invite you to be part of it. Volunteer with us. Donate supplies. Give financially if you are able. Community care is only possible because people choose to show up for one another.

This week and every week, Liberation Place is part of that work.

Volunteer: https://calendly.com/liberationplaceict/volunteer-at-the-liberation-place?month=2026-04

Donate: https://givebutter.com/oROwRu
Or Cashapp: $LiberationICT

Give supplies: We accept new and gently used baby and kids' clothing preemie to size 6/7, diapers of all sizes and types (yes, open packs are fine!), formula, and baby accessories of all types.
Come by anytime we're open: M-F noon to 6pm.

We are so grateful for the generosity this community continues to show. The donations you bring in are what make this space possible—truly.

But we need your help.

Over the weekend, items were left outside our door while we were closed. Unfortunately, they were gone through and scattered across the sidewalk.

If this continues, it will directly endanger our ability to remain in this location, as it creates problems for surrounding businesses, becomes an eyesore, and can draw after-hours activity in front of the space that we’re not able to safely manage.

Please do not leave donations outside our door when we are closed.

If you’d like to donate:
• Bring items during our open hours so we can receive them directly. We are open M-F noon to 6pm.
• If you have a large donation outside of those hours, send us a message on Facebook Messenger
• If a team member is available, we will coordinate with you so items can be brought inside quickly and safely.

This space belongs to all of us. Keeping it clean, safe, and welcoming is part of how we protect it—and how we make sure Liberation Place can stay open.

Thank you so much for showing up with care, not just in what you give, but how you give it. 💛

We need your help, friends!

Liberation Place’s back room is overflowing with donations right now—baby clothes, kids clothes, all the things. Our community really showed up.

But here’s the problem…
We don’t have enough volunteers to get it all out on the racks as quickly as needed.

Some of our racks are sitting empty—not because we don’t have items, but because we need hands to sort, organize, and hang everything so people can actually access it.

This is one of those moments where a few hours of your time makes a real, immediate difference.

If you’ve been thinking about volunteering, this is a great time to jump in!

Let’s get these racks filled back up for our community! Sign up here: https://calendly.com/liberationplaceict/volunteer-at-the-liberation-place

My jaw dropped when I opened this today! 🥹 To our friends at Tenfold Tattoo—thank you for your generosity! 🫶🏽❤️

Thank you for being part of this mutual aid network of neighbors showing up for neighbors. Mutual aid is a form of resistance. It’s a form of activism. It’s how we take care of each other where systems fall short, and how we practice solidarity in real time. We’re proud to stand in solidarity with our neighbors, and proud to be building something that is truly community-powered. This place only works because so many of you choose to keep showing up. Every act of giving and sharing becomes someone else’s soft landing. Every neighbor who joins in makes the circle stronger. Thank you for helping us build a Wichita where people are cared for—loudly, lovingly, and without conditions.

Liberation Place community — we are closed today (Monday) due to the very low temperatures and slick roads.

We’re choosing safety first and don’t want anyone traveling in conditions that aren’t safe. Please stay warm, bundle up, and check on your people!

Liberation Place friends — we’ll be closed this Friday, 1/23 due to the incoming winter storm and anticipated snow.

We hate to pause the work, but we’re choosing safety for our community, staff, and volunteers (and we don’t want anyone out driving in risky conditions).

Please plan accordingly, stay warm, and check on your people. 💛
We’ll share an update as soon as we know whether we’ll be closed on Monday, too.

P.S. We are OPEN today until 6 pm. Come see us if you need things before the weekend!

We’ve been really busy lately— and you can tell by looking at our empty shelves!
We urgently need:

🍼 Baby formula
🧻 Baby wipes
👉Diapers in sizes 5, 6, and 7

These everyday essentials make a big difference for caregivers and help ensure babies have what they need to stay healthy and cared for.

If you’re able to help, you can:

💛Drop off donations during our open hours of Mondays through Fridays from 12 pm to 6 pm.
💛Support by contributing an online donation to our Givebutter account: https://givebutter.com/oROwRu
(we’ll use donations to purchase the most urgently needed supplies)

As always, we believe everyone deserves dignity, support, and the resources they need to care for their families. Thank you for showing up for our community in real, practical ways. 💜
