Sadly, the psychology department has learned that Mary Jane Chambers, who established the HF Chambers Award in memory of Dr. Randall Chambers, passed away last week at the age of 93. Her funeral service will be held on Mar. 30 at 11:00am at University United Methodist Church (right across 21st St from campus). If you are available at that time, please attend the service to show your appreciation for her service and contribution to the WSU Human Factors program.
Mrs. Chambers was very supportive of our human factors program. After her husband, Dr. Randall Chambers, died in 2007, she created the fellowship that bears his name specifically to support student research in our program. Up until a few years ago, she would come to the Chambers Award competition to see the wonderful work we were doing and ask engaging questions. Additionally, members of HFES used to help her with the use of computers and iPads. She was always very interested in all the research we were doing, and very proud of the help she was able to give us. Additionally, she was happy to tell us the research her husband did at NASA and of the people in the space program they both got to know during that time. In short, she was perhaps the biggest supporter of our program that we've ever had, and a big part of our program's history.
