Omaha-based painter and printmaker Lori Elliott-Bartle finds inspiration in big skies and landscapes, travel and daily life. She even has a batch of big bluestem grass growing in her urban front yard.

For her work in Land That I Love, “Meet Me at the Prairie #1,” she combined layers of oil colors with cold wax to create depth and texture in an abstract depiction of prairie grasses.

Two of her paintings inspired by the Great Plains were recently shipped to the U.S. embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where they will be displayed as part of the U.S. State Department’s Art in Embassies program.

Meet Kristen Hildebrand, a competitor in this year’s Versus: A Live Art Battle on June 4 at Mark Arts.

Kristen Hildebrand is an oil painter, book illustrator and caricature artist from Wichita who is currently studying at Wichita Fine Art Atelier. Her work is rooted in her beliefs that creating art is creating beauty and that art has the power to uplift, inspire and connect. Creating art is also an act of perseverance for Kristen, “pushing forward through the trials of life, despite the pain, showing up to my canvas and putting in the hours to create something beautiful.”
