Today in Go Shockers history:
April 26, 1981 – Molly Maine finishes second in the Stephens College Invitational in Columbia, Mo. She wins five singles matches, including over Nebraska’s Sue Moore, before losing in the final to Missouri’s Helen Wilson.
April 26, 1990 – Pat Meares hits a grand slam in No. 8 WSU’s 8-5 win at Kansas State in front of 6,155 fans.
April 26, 1998 – Shortstop Zach Sorensen goes 5 for 6 with eight RBI in a 25-12 win at Indiana State. Sorensen hits three home runs and Tim Hayes hits two for the ninth-ranked Shockers.
April 26, 1998 – WSU sweeps the MVC tennis titles for a second year in a row. The WSU men defeat Indiana State 4-2 with Shaun Harrop winning No. 1 singles. Lisa Field takes No. 1 singles for the women in their 5-2 win over Indiana State.
April 26, 2011 – Scott City High School guard Ron Baker, an All-State selection in basketball and All-Class 3A as a defensive back, announces his plans to walk-on at Wichita State to play basketball. Baker agrees to pay his own way for one season while redshirting before receiving a scholarship.
April 26, 2005 - Right fielder Matt Brown makes a highlight-reel catch of a foul ball, tumbling over the wall to secure the out, and goes 3 for 4 in a 7-5 win over Oklahoma on ESPN2. Joe Muich homers and Damon Sublett goes 3 for 4 in a 7-5 win over Oklahoma.
April 26, 2011 – The Shockers win their fourth straight MVC men’s golf title by 15 shots over Illinois State in Sunrise Beach, Mo. Tyler Gann ties for first place with Drake’s Cody Schweinefus before losing a one-hole playoff.

Today in Go Shockers history:
April 24, 1982 – Wichita State clinches the Missouri Valley Conference Western Division title with a sweep at Creighton, 7-4 and 6-5. The Shockers improve to 53-9 and tie the school record with a 19-game win streak. Second baseman Jim Thomas homers and doubles to drive in two runs in the second game.
April 24, 1982 – Dave Puvogel sets a Drake Relays record with a high jump of 7-4 ½ in front of a crowd of 18,000.
April 24, 1987 – Atlanta’s Antoine Carr scores 11 points in his NBA playoff debut, a 110-94 win over Indiana.
April 24, 1993 – Jaime Bluma throws 2 2/3 innings of scoreless, hitless innings in Wichita State’s 6-4 win over Creighton. Richie Taylor homers for the Shockers.
April 24, 1996 – Casey Blake homers twice and Jerry Stine homers and doubles in No. 1 WSU’s 19-4 win over Oklahoma State in front of 6,181 fans at Eck Stadium.
April 24, 1999 – Jason Krafft holds Evansville to four hits in a 10-0 win in the nightcap. Krafft strikes out eight and walks one. In the opener, Tim Hayes’ three-run double lifts No. 11 WSU to a 4-1 win.
April 24, 2010 – La’Taish Brown long jumps 20-10 ½ to set the school record and win the Sooner Invitational in Norman, Okla.
April 24, 2010 – Johnny Coy homers and doubles in WSU’s 7-6 win over San Jose State.
April 24, 2018 – Luke Ritter homers and doubles in WSU’s 14-5 win at Kansas.

April 22, 1981 – Phil Stephenson goes 3 for 5 to extend his hitting streak to 41 games in a 10-0 win over Kansas Newman.
April 22, 1992 – Jason White and Scot McCloughan homer. Joey Jackson goes 3 for 4 in WSU’s 7-6 win over Kansas State.
April 22, 1998 – No. 9 WSU sweeps Southwest Missouri State 12-5 and 9-7. Jeff Ryan hits his 20th homer in the first game and two more in the nightcap to go 4 for 8 with eight RBI and four runs in the doubleheader.
April 22, 2005 – Mike Pelfrey strikes out six and limits Creighton to five hits over eight innings in an 8-0 win. Danny Jackson goes 2 for 3 with a double and drives in two runs.
April 22, 2007 – Margo Pruis strikes out eight in a 13-4 win at Bradley to earn win No. 73, a school record. Pruis records her 800th strikeout in the fourth inning.
April 22, 2008 – Connor McHenry takes medalist honors at the MVC Tournament in Davenport, Iowa. The Shockers win the team title by 24 strokes over Southern Illinois with McHenry shooting a 5-under-par 208.
April 22, 2008 – No. 14 WSU scores six runs in the fourth inning to defeat Kansas 6-4 in front of 6,943 fans, the largest regular-season crowd in WSU history. Clint McKeever and Andy Dirks drive in two runs apiece in the inning. Khol Nanney strikes out five and throws 2.3 scoreless, hitless innings and WSU defeats KU for the fifth straight time.
April 22, 2012 – Luftiana Budiharto wins 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to help the Shockers defeat Northern Iowa 7-0 and finish MVC play 7-0.
April 22, 2014 – WSU wins the MVC women’s golf title by one stroke over Indiana State in Springfield, Ill. It is WSU’s first title since 1992 as a member of the Gateway Conference. Alejandro Arellano finishes in a tie for second with a 219.
April 22, 2016 – WSU rallies from a five-run deficit to defeat Bradley 7-5. Grayson Jenista’s double sparks a three-run seventh-inning to give WSU a 6-5 lead.
