A few widely scattered storms Saturday will roll through the night into Sunday morning. A few could be severe, mainly with a wind and hail threat. Lingering showers for Mother's Day in the morning, but sunshine and mild temps take over for the afternoon.

SUNDAY SEVERE STORMS

Sunday is a classic conditional severe weather day. If storms form, they could be the kind that get remembered for a long time. But while there is a chance that things go boom, there's also a chance of a bust.

Sunday morning starts with a round of scattered storms in western Kansas. A few of these could be strong to severe, but the morning round will not be cooking with the same kind of gas that we will have Sunday evening.

Low clouds hang around in the morning. As afternoon approaches, there may be a few breaks in the clouds, especially in southern Kansas. This will be the key. If you get a couple of hours of sunshine, it will turn the atmosphere dangerous. If we stay cloudy, we stay cooler and the cap will be stronger.

If storms develop, the environment will be extremely supportive of severe weather. Lots of spin, powerful instability, plenty of moisture. The highest threat will be from the late afternoon into the evening, persisting after dark.

At any rate, make sure you are paying attention tomorrow. It could be a big day. All it takes is one storm. More updates to come.
