OUT OF THE ASHES SPEAKER HIGHLIGHT:
Benita Okolo is a prayer warrior, author, educator, and overcomer whose life reflects the transforming power of God. After the devastating murder of her son, Benita found herself in a battle with grief, anger, confusion, and unimaginable pain. In her darkest moments, she discovered that surviving required more than occasional prayer — it required daily surrender. Every morning, she cried out to God for her daily portion of strength, knowing that yesterday’s grace was not enough for today.
Through intense seasons of wrestling with God and processing her sorrow, Benita began writing down her thoughts and emotions. Journaling became a lifeline in her healing journey. From that place of vulnerability, she created her journal, The Pain of Losing a Child, to offer hope and guidance to other grieving parents.
Benita has always carried a heart for children. She owned and operated a childcare facility for 15 years, dedicating herself to nurturing young lives. She has worked extensively with at-risk youth and children with disabilities, and she currently serves as a second-grade teacher with Prince George’s County Public Schools.
Her message at the “Out of the Ashes” conference is simple yet powerful: You cannot rely on yesterday’s strength for today’s battle. We must seek the Lord daily, every second, because it is only through Him that we truly rise from the ashes.
