Why your gifts are important to Mosaic

First of all understand, I don't get a salary so 100% of what comes to Mosaic goes to helping those who live in our house and those we provide services to.

Those currently here or moving in this week.

1 Individual was on the streets for over 5 years, has been living at Mosaic for 6 years now, and has a job and doing great. We don't kick people out, we believe in practicing and living in community. This individual contributes financially to the ministry and gives his tithes and offerings.

We have a lady who was referred to us through the Wichita Homeless Outreach Team through the Wichita Police Department. She was living in a public restroom a couple of weeks ago. She has no money, no income, no way to contribute to the cost of her staying here. Yet, today, Mary Jane is out looking for clothes for her as she has a job interview tomorrow which would allow her to contribute to the ministry work here. She has already been helping out a great deal with the chores around the house and has expressed gratitude numerous times. You can only imagine how she has survived on the streets, while living in a public bathroom.

We have another young man moving in in the next day or two. He is a referral from the Mental Health Association, he also has issues, is on parole, but currently working and in need of a place to stay that will enable him to make it, to provide the community needed to help out with succeeding, plus helping in the disciple making process. He will have some money to help contribute, although it is a work in process and his contributions will be substantially below what it cost to have him here.

We have another young lady who we are looking at moving in this week. She has been homeless as well and is another possible referral through the Wichita Police Department's HOT program. We are learning more about her as she is starting the application process and we are not certain as to if she will fit in yet as we have only engaged in phone conversations with her.

We have others though wanting to be a part, including a young man who has been addicted to drugs and alcohol on the streets that I have gotten to know over the last 7 or 8 years. He is finally at the point where he recognizes his needs and the actions to make those things happen. He wants as much as anything the spiritual accountability to make it happen.

Of course, right now, if everyone else comes in, there won't be room for him, but we are seeing again, the need for ongoing support and space to more people. We don't just provide a meal for people, there are many ongoing organizations who do that, but we provide an in depth spiritual discipleship program based on Christian Community where we live together, share in life together to help grow spiritually and to help individuals get on their feet. Over the last number of years we have provided these types of services to numerous individuals, some staying over a year, others staying for a few weeks, and some, a few days. Some were ready with the help of some, to help themselves, others were not. Yet, we continue doing what we can to help those we can, often with little or no financial support to make things happen. It amazes me how God continues to meet our needs, (speaking mainly of my wife and I) but as well as the needs of Mosaic and those in the house.

Currently we need to fix a bathroom, redo counters in the kitchen, redo floors in the living, dining and kitchen area due to the heavy traffic over the years. I don't know how we will do it, but I know God will provide a way for it to get done.

Anyway, an update as to what is going on at Mosaic. Today, I am ready to go to the studio with a friend in McPherson, one resident is mowing our yard and the yard of an elderly lady across the street whose yard duty we have done for no fee for 4 or more years, and Mary Jane is currently out helping a young lady get some appropriate clothes for a job interview and hopefully job in the near future. Others in the community help up, whether it be financial donations, the donations of service, or helping gather certain specific types of clothing for a young lady wanting more. What I will say, is that while I don't get a financial salary for what I do, I am so totally blessed by the things I see happen that I know from first hand experience, that no amount of money on earth would equal the blessings I see God do upon the lives of others because some are obedient and I am blessed to be a part of seeing that obedience from all of you who have blessed so many others in ways you can't imagine.

Starting in January Mosaic is taking a somewhat new direction as a Missional Ministry and Safe House for those in need with ongoing ministry supports but also a Safe House for Lodging on both a short-term and long-term basis. While space will be limited, we will be moving in this direction.

Starting on Tuesday, January 17, at 7:00 PM we will be offering a brief time of worship and devotion, and the bulk of our time spent in prayer for each other, our city, our nation, our world. Individuals do not have to be a regular part of Mosaic to participate in the Tuesday Evening Prayer times. People from other churches, those not attending church or any other Individuals will be able to come and go as they please, and we will also make floor space and other space as available for any homeless friends who may attend during these times so they have a place to stay for the night.

These are areas we have prepared for with our new leadership team and will be implementing, we are excited to see where God takes this. Obviously we hope this time can lead to additional times where we can begin to grow the ministry within the community.

If interested in more information on this, please feel free to contact me, Mike Furches, at facebook or you can call me at 316-258-3952. We look forward to partnering with our many friends in the continuation of ministry for Mosaic.
