The Sierra Club -- Southwind Group (Wichita)--is sponsoring a 'Tree Walk' with an arborist on Saturday, June 11 beginning at 9AM in Clapp Park. We will start from the Club House off Harry. Roger Spexarth, of Happy Tree, a licensed Arborist will lead the 'walk' and identify the different tree species and explain how they may be identified.
L.W. Clapp is Wichita's newest neighborhood park (until September 2021 it was a golf course) and is home to several stands of beautiful mature trees. It is located at the intersection of Harry and Oliver in south east Wichita. The 'Walk' will begin at the park club house (entrance is off Harry) at 9AM and is not expected to last more than two hours.
Roger will point out different tree species and help us learn to identify the trees that are all around us. Hope to see you there tree friends!!

$0 budgeted for trees/reforestation
Difficult to understand the priorities of the City of Wichita- Government here. Words like “there is no money for trees since the Great Recession” don’t really matchup for a request for $3.3 Million for Pickle Plex (lighted pickle ball courts), not to mention the $25 Million on Crystal Lake, among others. As the Mayor pointed out that pickle ball is actually getting more than the supplemental allocation for the critical buidings needs of the Fire Department.
This is disappointing but not suprising. We will be asking City Council to revisit the issue in final budget approval process.
Help us plant trees regardless.
