What a beautiful morning for the Wichita Fire Department's Apparatus Push-In Ceremony for Engine #17. This commemorative event dates back to 1886 when WFD was founded as a volunteer corps and fire-fighting equipment was pulled by horses. When they returned to the station, horses couldn't back the equipment in, so firefighters had to push it in themselves. We don't have horses today--instead, the City of Wichita- Government Council has invested millions of dollars in equipment for our Fire Department. I was happy to take part in today's ceremony!
