This is Barnie. For nearly six years, he lived behind the bars of a shelter. No one chose him. Too big, too old, too “plain,” some said. But Barnie never lost hope. And he never let go of his stuffed monkey, his beloved plush toy that had been patched up by volunteers more times than anyone could count. It wasn’t just a toy—it was his comfort, his friend, the symbol of the home he dreamed of.
Years went by. Puppies were adopted, younger dogs found families. Barnie stayed. Until one day, someone really saw him—saw the kindness in his tired eyes—and decided to take a chance.
Now Barnie is home. Still carrying his toy, but no longer as a source of comfort. He holds it with pride now. As if to say, “I told you someone would love me someday.”

When Sam Simon, legendary co‑creator of The Simpsons, learned in late 2012 that he had terminal colon cancer and was given just months to live, he made a powerful choice: instead of despair, he chose action.
With a net worth estimated at $100 million, Simon didn’t leave it behind or spend it on luxury. He gave it away, dedicating nearly everything to causes he cared about most. Through the Sam Simon Foundation, he poured millions into animal welfare: rescuing shelter animals, funding free mobile veterinary surgeries, and training service dogs for veterans and those with disabilities.
But his generosity didn’t stop there. He also established vegan food banks feeding hundreds of families weekly, supported high‑impact organizations like PETA and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, and even funded a former Japanese whaling ship to enforce anti‑whaling laws.
Simon once said, “I have more money than I’m interested in spending… everyone in my family is taken care of. And I enjoy this”. He channelled his fortune into kindness, compassion, and real-world change.
Although he passed away in March 2015 at 59, his impact resonates today. His foundation continues free vet clinics, food programs, and service-dog training, making kindness contagious, one life at a time. Sam Simon’s legacy reminds us: it’s not just what we create, but how we give back.
