It is a great day to be a part of the Wichita Falls FFA-Leila Dillard brought home the Texas FFA State 1st place banner in Soil Stewardship. I was not there for all of the hard work and long hours she put into the speech, but I was extremely happy to be there today and yesterday to see her bring home the banner. Not only did she do one 8 minute speech but she did two, they were similar yet different. If you see her please congratulate her on a well deserved first place Soil Stewardship banner and her 6th place (out of 24) Natural Resources banner. To say the least, the Wichita Falls FFA chapter is over the top proud of Leila.

Feeder steer check-in day for senior, Jasmin Ortiz, highlights the hands-on learning that takes place in agricultural education. Throughout the school year, Jasmin has applied key concepts from animal science by tracking average daily gain (ADG), evaluating and adjusting nutrition plans, and monitoring overall animal health and performance.

Through this project, she has developed practical skills in livestock management, data collection, and decision-making—gaining real-world experience in the production side of the beef cattle industry that will benefit her in future agricultural pursuits.

Next week, her learning comes full circle as she evaluates the carcass of her steer, Sir Loin, analyzing yield and quality grades to better understand how management decisions impact end-product value—an essential component of the beef industry.
From the classroom to the chute to the rail, this is what real learning looks like—and Jasmin is proving that hard work, consistency, and a passion for agriculture always pay off in the end! 🥩💪🏻
