Did you know going to bed with wet hair can damage your strands and your scalp?
Here’s why you should avoid it — and how to prevent problems if you absolutely have to!
Why it’s bad:
• Hair is weakest when wet, making it more prone to breakage, tangles, and split ends.
• A damp scalp creates a breeding ground for bacteria, which can lead to itchiness, dandruff, or even fungal infections.
• Constant moisture and friction from your pillow can cause frizz, flat roots, or moldy pillowcases (yes, seriously!).
If you have to sleep with damp hair:
• Gently towel dry or let it air-dry as much as possible first.
• Apply a leave-in conditioner to protect and detangle.
• Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction.
• Try a loose braid or bun (never tight!) to avoid tangles and minimize breakage.
