Good morning!
Today is the FIRST DAY of Summer Tutoring!
Many times people can’t understand HOW I’m so excited to “work” through the summer but it’s truly my favorite two months of the year to work.
Summer just hits different…. The academic workload has subsided, the kids have camps and trips and family adventures they are eager to share with me, our short 45-minute but highly targeted sessions allows the skills to absorb more quickly and effectively, I incorporate novelty and game style learning where they are excited to come see me, and the progress is double or triple in the summer!
How could I not want to teach in the Summer!
I cannot wait to see where Summer Tutoring leads us! Onward and upward!💚

This is one of the BEST videos I have come across for proper sound articulation! The only adjustment I would make is to have the unvoiced /th/ sound be continuant, not a stop. She stopped a little too abruptly (but that is nitpicking).
TOO OFTEN I have a struggling student and their family come for a consultation and I discover after just the first 10 minutes of literacy activities with their child that their sound articulation is extremely distorted.
Pronouncing sounds is the FIRST STEP to decoding a word accurately. I love to use the example of sounding out the following word:
/p/ /l/ /a/ /n/ /t/
The child will usually say: /pUH/ /lUH/ /a/ /nUH/ /tUH/
Well, "Puhluhanuhtuh" will never sound like "plant" because of all the added sounds they hear as they are blending phonemes.
* BUT before correcting our children's distortions we MUST MODEL these sounds correctly, every single time we give it. We must be very intentional when saying the sounds to our children. We cannot be LAX or VAGUE when giving the child the sound a letter makes.
"Close enough" isn't good enough! Be explicit and have unwavering concentration when you are working with your child on sounds & the IMPROVEMENTS will be amazing!
Since I am in Texas, we are proud southerners, country folk, southern drawl, "Howdy" and "yall" and "fixin' ta" relaxed way if speaking and that is OK... for casual conversation.
But when must "code switch" so to speak: We need to learn to speak the way we want to spell and write. That begins with accurate sound articulation and then practicing the accurate sounds when decoding words and reading. Doing all of that will also transfer into spelling with more accuracy and success because we are able to write the sounds we hear, and the sounds we hear are the correct sounds.
Please check the video out, practice on your own to get an "ear" for those correct articulations, and then start working on those sounds with your child.
As always, if you would love a partnership to help your child be successful.... Please reach out! You are Amazing & Thank you for your unwavering dedication to help your child succeed!

Tis the season of BACK TO SCHOOL & getting back into routines, subjects to study, earlier bedtimes and juggling the academics with extra-curricular activities! Doesn’t matter if you are public school, private school, or home school… this is A BUSY TIME for us all! ⏰
Decode Learning Hub will be closed down until September 16th for the exact reasons mentioned above (I am mom with my own personal learner at home 🏡) and transitioning from Summer to Fall Tutoring takes some time as well.
In the meantime if you are interested in starting this year strong with support, an academic partner, and have a PROACTIVE versus a reactive approach to your child’s learning this year…
Feel free to reach out & let’s start making a plan NOW to crush goals, experience confidence, and see progress right out of the gate this Fall 🍁🍂
