dear winter semester -

we made it!! through the darkness and the cold. thank you for giving us a refuge, a place where the energy was always bright. we leaned on each other. we kept creating and growing, even in hibernation.

you gave us time - time to practice and settle and build the foundation we needed. but now spring is calling our name…

we can feel the energy building beneath the surface. we are ready to take what we have learned and let it BLOOM.

need somewhere to practice?? we are hosting 𝘀𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿, a west coast swing focused social dance, on the third saturday of every month; next date is april 18 at 7pm. 𝘯𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘥, 𝘯𝘰 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘥.

we are celebrating 2 YEARS of Rio this week! and for someone who rarely runs out of words - i am pretty speechless.

how on EARTH do you put into words what Rio has become, and what this space and community mean to me?

how do you make a video montage that captures the essence, the growth, the safety, the community, the bravery, the dreams?

maybe we are not meant to.

Rio is a lot of things, but mostly it is human. it is IRL. it is being alive and hearing music with our human ears and letting it move our human bodies. creating with the goal of connecting with other humans, in the audience or simply each other.

welcome to music & movement! 🎵

a weekly drop-in class where we practice listening to music with our ears andddd our bodies. there is no choreography or set movement, but there is guidance - class is propelled by prompts, invitations, or questions to inform your movement.

in this quick hour you will have time to:

• check-in, settle, stretch
• warm-up your body (and your brain!)
• move with both freedom and intention
• listen to new (and old!) music
• engage with the choices of the musicians
• create without attachment to what you create
• use your imagination (!!!)
• witness the brilliance of other dancers doing the same thing

yes, it’s as magical as it sounds.
