Emergency! helped America see a new era of firefighting — where firefighters weren’t just responding to emergencies, they were bringing lifesaving medical care with them.

While Hollywood was showing firefighter-paramedics on TV, Wheeling firefighters were making it a reality.

This photo from 1977 shows Dick Lemery, one of our first paramedics, teaching CPR and helping build the foundation of the EMS system we have today.

The equipment has changed, but the mission hasn’t: saving lives.

Family of a fallen Wheeling firefighter has had their mortgage paid off by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, giving his wife and children long-term financial security.
