As wildfires continue along the Front Range and have impacted so many living here in Colorado, we thought we'd take a moment to share some tips when it comes to evacuations and contact info for our various carriers in case the worst happens:
What To Do In Case of an Evacuation
1. Keep a close eye on the news and have your phone charged in case any emergency instructions are sent out.
2. Have a go-bag ready. This should include basics such as extra clothing, toiletries, important legal documents, medications, battery packs, and some sort of thumb drive or external hard-drive with important documents, photos, and lists of your belongings.
3. Know the evacuation points before the order comes. Know which roads are closed and which are being used as an escape route. Being able to get out as quickly as possible is paramount.
4. Establish a meeting place for your family in case of separation.
5. Secure your home by locking doors and windows.
6. Unplug electrical equipment such as TVs, small appliances, and radios.
7. Leave a note on the door telling people what time you left and where you're going.
8. Check-in with neighbors in case they're in need of rides.
9. Go directly to your evacuation point. Do not take short-cuts in case a road is blocked off or inaccessible. Take only designated evacuation roads.
