Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church located in Tallassee, AL
The first ever Mass in what is now Alabama was reportedly held in the same general area, then known as Tukabatchee, the capital of the Creek Indian Nation, during Hernando DeSoto's exploration.
Centuries later, Roberts and Mildred Blount, influenced by Archbishop Fulton Sheen's television program "Life is Worth Living," converted to Catholicism and decided to build a church in Tallassee.
