That 65-inch smart TV on your conference room wall? It’s not just a screen. It is a networked computer with a microphone and a camera. 📺👀

We use conference rooms for our most sensitive discussions: contract negotiations, financial reviews and strategic planning. Yet, in most small businesses, nobody has ever reviewed the security settings on the smart TVs, webcams or speakerphones sitting in those rooms.

Security researchers have documented that smart TVs and consumer electronics are among the most frequently targeted devices on business networks and are often used as an entry point to reach deeper servers and file shares.

If you have ever spent 5 minutes hunting through Teams trying to find a meeting recording, there is a feature you should be using.

It is called the Meet app and it is already built into Teams. No Copilot license required.

The Meet app gives you a single dashboard for every meeting you have had or are about to have. Click on any meeting and you get the agenda, recording, transcript, chat and shared files all in one place.

To find it:
1. Open Teams
2. Click the three dots on the left navigation bar
3. Search for "Meet"
4. Right-click and pin it so it stays in your sidebar

Once pinned, you will see two views: upcoming meetings and past meetings. Click any past meeting to see everything tied to it. Finding what was discussed in last month's leadership review used to take 5 minutes of digging through your calendar, recordings and SharePoint.

With Meet, it takes 30 seconds.

If your Microsoft 365 setup is a few years old or you inherited it from a previous IT provider, some of the settings probably haven't been touched since day one.

Microsoft has tightened its defaults over the past few years which is good news for new tenants. But those changes don't go back and fix older tenants automatically. Sharing links set to "anyone with the link" old inbox forwarding rules, third-party apps granted access years ago and MFA configurations that pre-date Conditional Access all stay exactly where they were.
We put together a list of five settings worth checking (especially if your tenant is more than two or three years old).
