There is another side to Asteya (non-stealing) that is rarely discussed: our inability to receive.
Sometimes we reject compliments. We minimize our accomplishments. We rush past moments of beauty. We fail to receive the support that is being offered.
When we do this, we unknowingly steal from the generosity of life itself. Yoga teaches receptivity. Every Savasana is an invitation to receive. Every breath is evidence that life is continually giving itself to us.
Consider this question: What gifts have been waiting for me that I have not fully received?
Perhaps peace. Perhaps love. Perhaps support. Perhaps the quiet recognition that you are already enough.
Asteya asks us not only to stop taking what isn't ours, but to fully receive what is. And perhaps that is one of the greatest teachings of all. What part of myself is ready to emerge if I stop holding it back?
