Starting in 2026, there will be 30 little ones at Neema! These children are not only provided with their basic needs like warm clothing, shoes, and a cozy bed, but also begin their education. When their mothers are in class, two-year-old children start our mini-preschool where they develop a strong foundation for school when their mother graduates.

But we need your help to continue providing for these children. Right now, the children at Neema don’t have a playground area—and we’d love to change that! With your support, we can build a space where children can play and grow. We also want to provide a small library so teachers and mothers can read to their children, extra clothes to help keep little ones warm and dry, and early childhood training for our nursery staff.

Caring for children, educating them, and helping their mothers means future generations can live a new story—a story of children who reach school age without malnourishment or neglect. A story of safety, love, and hope.

Maria* grew up in a tumultuous home environment. She was then still a young teenager when she discovered she was pregnant. This meant the end of her schooling—without support from the baby's father or her family, the idea of continuing education while raising a baby seemed impossible.

She then heard about Neema’s program for young women — including teenage mothers. At Neema, Maria began working through her shame and pain, found peace in her role as a mother, and ultimately fell in love with her daughter.

Maria’s healing journey was beginning and she felt that she could see the light at the end of the tunnel once again. During these three years, Maria grew emotionally and gained skills that will set her up for independence and give her a path out of poverty.

She said, “I am so hopeful that by the time I leave Neema, I will walk out as a stronger, wiser, and more empowered version of myself.”

And this is where Maria is today.

In just a few days, she’ll be wearing a cap and gown, and receiving a certificate of graduation.

A sewing machine creates a reliable income stream. In rural Kenya, jobs are scarce and young women have few options to earn a living. A sewing machine gives her a skill-based livelihood right where she lives. She can take tailoring orders, make school uniforms, repair clothes, or produce items for local markets, turning her Neema training into daily income.

One graduate says, “I never imagined I would make it to my final year. Looking back, I’m so grateful that Neema didn’t give up on me during those early years... Being here has helped me see things more clearly. I have grown, matured, and learned so much…I am so hopeful that by the time I leave Neema, I will walk out as a stronger, wiser, and more empowered version of myself.”

This Giving Tuesday, join us in equipping each of Neema’s graduates with a sewing machine and a starter kit to launch their own businesses and build a future out of poverty! Donate today: neemaproject.org/giving-tuesday-2025
