The first stump grinders needed multiple people to run, but all of that changed in 1956. That's the year that Gary Vermer of the Vermer Manufacturing Company introduced the first modern stump grinder. This could be operated by one person, and used a horizontally moving motor for precision grinding.

When it comes to stump grinding, it’s important that the grinder mulches down to at least eight inches below the surface or farther if necessary. This deep mulching is important, as it helps to eliminate any problems with drainage that the remaining roots might cause.

The tallest trees in the world are the Californian Redwoods, and not the Giant Redwoods or Wellingtonia. Even though both species of trees are sometimes referred to as Giant Redwoods, the Sequoia grows slightly taller, with the tallest recorded at 115.7 meters (379.7 feet).
