Wells Harbor Shellfish Lab

One of the biggest points of confusion I often hear regarding identifying green crabs is that the crabs themselves must always be green! However, what if I told you that every crab included in this post is a green crab? The ventral side (or bottom) of the green crab can range in color from a pale green to yellow to brown to orange! The best way to identify a green crab is to look at the points on either side of their eye socket; if you count 5 on each side, you're looking at a green crab!
