Happy Mother’s Day!

We got to dedicate our sweet girl to the Lord today and promise in front of our church to teach her about Jesus and encourage her in her walk with the Lord. Motherhood is the biggest gift and challenge, and I’m so honored to be entrusted with this girl.

For those of you who know our story, it’s a miracle that I even get to celebrate this day. Motherhood is something I didn’t know when or if I’d ever get to experience. I am still in awe that I do.

He still does miracles. Don’t you ever forget it, Halle girl. You are one of them. 🤍

My attempt at *trying* to be funny.

Somehow, I’m old enough for my mom to be 70. She is- outside of my husband- my biggest cheerleader, sounding board, and helper. She makes the 30 min trek multiple times a week to help with childcare while I’m working, or when I just want to go to a Bible study or go to the grocery store solo. She is a gift to me and my family, and I cherish her so much. Something about 70 makes the fact that she won’t always be here more real to me.. even though tomorrow isn’t guaranteed for any of us.

Next weekend, we get to celebrate her! And I made these candles as a favor for her friends who join us. 🤍

Here’s what a lot of candle business owners don’t tell you- you likely won’t make money the first year, and if you break even, that’s win. While we didn’t quite break even, in my head we did because we were able to donate products to give away locally (remember my husband aka financial adviser advising against this? 🤣), make a donation to su***de prevention, and even had some help in the maker studio from my niece and nephew making their own creations. It’s been so fun! 👏🏼 I’ve learned so much, and I’m so grateful for the growth I’ve experienced and the growth our products have experienced, too. Candles have taken a back seat recently, and in full transparency, I feel like I just don’t have the energy to do them right now.

For the last few months we’ve had heating issues. It all came to a head this past week when we needed to replace our furnace- which of course we put in new 3 years ago when we moved in. Halle and I spent 3 days at my mom’s house since we were supposed to get bad weather in St. Louis while Ben and Tank hunkered down at home and made sure pipes didn’t freeze.

Praise the Lord we are home and have heat now. And praise the Lord for this little business we’ve built that makes life happenings, like needing a new furnace, less of a burden on our family while I (still) continue to search for work.

Plus, Facebook reminded me that one year ago we launched our website for sales! What a year it’s been. Thanks for your continued support of our family and my love of creating candles. It’s been fun, and I can’t wait to see what year ✌🏼brings. 💕

This weekend I’m getting together with a group of friends and everyone is bringing a homemade item. Yes, there will be food, but that’s not what I’m talking about here! People bring enough of whatever item (face mask, body scrub, essential oil roller, candles) and exchange them. Everyone gets some of every thing! How fun is that?!

Wanted this to have a permanent spot on our feed for a few reasons. 1) to remember how amazing it was to make these to benefit people who need hope. My prayer is that we will get to make many more candles to benefit others in the months to come. 2) to thank all of you who bought candles to benefit this cause. Yesterday was a busy day! My sister in law and I spent all day making candles to benefit su***de prevention. And what's even better is that y'all SHOWED UP! We only have 3 Out of the Darkness and 5 Hope left. We plan to ship these this week (ahead of original schedule) so if you've been thinking about getting one, snag it while you still can. I have no doubt we'll sell out and have the priviledge of making a generous contribution to the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention thanks to all of you.

Long story short- the private, virtual, Christian school that I was working at the last two years closed suddenly about two weeks ago due to lack of funding. Today, I submitted my application for unemployment, which was much more humbling than I ever imagined.

All that to say, our family is in a season of transition, AND this pivot gives me a bit more time to make candles. If you feel led to help, please consider buying a candle or two if you think about it in the coming months. I'll have more fall and winter ones on the website by early September.
