The Velvet Stocking

Hey southern friends have you ever seen a Sundog. Woof woof.
Well this is a different Sundog. They are pretty magical but it come with a price. Cold weather. It was around -22 when I took this picture while driving to minnesota. With this cold front you just might see one. They are beautiful. Let me know if you have ever seen one.

Sundogs form from sunlight refracting (bending) through flat, hexagonal ice crystals in high-altitude clouds (like cirrus) or in icy haze, acting like tiny prisms to split light into colors, typically red closest to the sun, creating bright spots (parhelia) on either side of the sun, usually 22 degrees away, especially when the sun is low on the horizon.
