EAA Chapter 640

What a day! We had a lot to celebrate today at our Chapter Gathering. While the crew was busy moving the Learn Build Fly Commonwealth SkyRanger restoration project to a neighboring hangar and clearing space in prep for the AirVenture Cup Race, Kurt Mehre took Lily Schaefer for a flight in his Cessna 172... when they landed and everyone had lunch, we got to share the surprise: this was Kurt's 100th Young Eagle flight! Congrats Kurt and thank you for supporting youth in aviation!
While they were off flying we heard a very particular buzz overhead - and spotted a tri-wing aircraft overhead. Now that's not something you see everyday, but we all knew it - congrats to Glenn "Doc" Burt on a successful first flight of his Fokker Dr.I replica!

We also had updates from our Ray Scholars Josh and Lily, on the build of the teardrop camper from Lily and Nathan, and on the development of air-race trackers from Derek! The kids are alright!
