✦ Two Words I've Been Sitting With: Equanimity & Congruence ✦
Lately I keep circling back to these two words, both in my own personal life and in the sessions I hold space for here in Wausau, WI.
🌊 Equanimity
🌞 In my own life, this is the pause before the reactive text. The ability to take in praise or criticism without inflating or collapsing. Feeling the full weight of something and not being thrown by it.
🌊 The Taoists teach this through water, the softest thing wearing down the hardest thing, not through force but through never resisting in the first place. That's wu wei.
🌳 The Stoics get to the same place through discipline. Epictetus sorted the world into what's up to you and what isn't, and most suffering comes from treating the second pile like it's the first. Marcus Aurelius took it further into something like amor fati, not just tolerating what happens but working with it as the material you're actually here for.
🧘🏻♀️ Esoterically, this is the Hermetic Principle of Rhythm, everything swings, out and in, and mastery isn't stopping the pendulum, it's finding the still point above it where you feel the swing without being dragged by it.
- ᛁ - In Runic terms, this rests near Isa, the ice, the pause that holds.
✨️ Spiritually, this is Vedanta's witness consciousness, the awareness that watches the waves without being made of wave. In my own life, this is the difference between actually feeling something and just managing it from a safe distance.
🌳 Congruence
🌞 In my own practice, this is what I'm actually watching for in a session, whether someone leaves lighter, or just calmer for an hour. Day to day, it's the match between what you think, feel, say, and do. The absence of a silent "but" behind your yes.
🌊 Taoism calls this pu, the uncarved block, who you were before the world started carving. What flows from a person living true to that shape is Te, not performed virtue, just alignment.
🌳 The Stoics called it kata physin, living according to nature, both the wider order of things and your own particular nature. Epictetus talked about playing the role you've been given well, rather than performing someone else's. Virtue wasn't something you displayed, it was something you were.
🧘🏻♀️ Esoterically, this is Hermetic Correspondence, as within so without, coherence between the inner state and the outer expression.
- ᚫ - In Runic terms, this rests near Ansuz, the message, the inner voice matching the spoken word.
✨️ Spiritually, this is the Vedic idea of svadharma, action arising from your own nature rather than performed to meet an image.
🏥 Physical note: if you feel either of these in your chest or shoulders as you read, that's not unusual. This kind of work often surfaces where we've been holding the "but," or holding our breath waiting for the next swing.
✦ If this resonates, let's work with what your body already knows, not just what your mind understands. Book a Reiki or Shamanic Healing session and feel the difference.
