Ka-Bloom! 🌸
Every year around the Fourth of July, Iowa seems to hit its stride. Roadsides, prairies, gardens, and woodlands all come alive with color, and it’s hard not to stop and admire what’s blooming.
Up to this time of year you'll have seen everything from peonies and native columbine to butterfly milkweed, purple coneflower, beardtongue, viburnum, and common milkweed putting on a show. Some of these plants have been cherished for generations, while others quietly support pollinators and wildlife behind the scenes.
One of the things we love most about well designed ecological gardens and native landscapes is that they’re never static. As one plant finishes it's display, another takes its place. The landscape is always changing, always giving you something new to notice.
If you’ve been thinking about adding more color, more pollinators, or simply more life to your yard, now is a great time to get out and see what inspires you. Visit a local prairie, walk through a botanical garden, or even pay attention to the ditch on your drive home. Nature is full of great design ideas.
What’s blooming in your yard right now? We’d love to see it in the comments.
🌿 Creating sustainable, beautiful landscapes with purpose.
Ever wonder what a mature food forest looks like in the middle of a city?

Stormwater management
Community engagement
This is a chance to learn from a real project that's been evolving for years.
