Yesterday, KBH hosted an Insider Briefing focused on our Opioid Health Home and the continued expansion of this work in Kennebec County.

The conversation brought together partners from health care, recovery support, emergency response, prosecution/justice, prevention, community health, and KBH programs to better understand the OHH model and identify opportunities to strengthen connection across systems.

The OHH team shared how their interdisciplinary, whole-person approach supports people living with opioid use disorder and other co-occurring substance use and mental health needs through medication-assisted treatment, counseling, peer recovery coaching, patient navigation, care coordination, and community-based engagement.

A few key themes rose to the surface:
β€’ Recovery is built through relationships, not only appointments.
β€’ Transportation, housing instability, food insecurity, stigma, and limited access to primary care continue to create real barriers.
β€’ Flexible, person-centered care helps people stay connected to treatment, even when life is complex.
β€’ Community partnerships are essential to helping people move beyond treatment and back into meaningful connection with family, work, community, and self.

We are grateful to everyone who joined the conversation, asked thoughtful questions, shared resources, and helped identify opportunities for continued collaboration. The work ahead is complex, but yesterday’s discussion was a powerful reminder that none of us has to do it alone.

Thank you to our OHH team and partners for continuing to build a more connected, compassionate, and recovery-oriented system of care across Kennebec and Somerset Counties.

At Kennebec Behavioral Health, recovery is not something people have to walk through alone.

Our Opioid Health Home is built around human connection: bringing together medical treatment, counseling, peer recovery support, patient navigation, and whole-person care for people living with opioid use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions.

Currently serving 111 people across Somerset and Kennebec Counties, OHH maintains a 94% retention rate, a reflection of a team that keeps showing up, removes barriers, and walks beside people every step of the way. πŸ’™
