"God, Lady Luck, and the MRAP" are what kept the public and law enforcement safe on Pillar Point last May, along with training and dedication to service, according to Sheriff Barnett earlier today at an awards ceremony at the PSB. Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies including members of the Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (SERT), along with New York State Troopers and City of Watertown Police, converged on Pillar Point on May 16th for a check the welfare complaint that unexpectedly turned into shots fired at law enforcement. A County Route 59 resident was taken into custody that night, unharmed, after firing on police and striking a Deputy with a tractor. A cottage owned by the man also burned and several of our members had minor injuries, but no one was seriously hurt or killed. The man was stopped with a Taser, and our members were protected by our MRAP. The man was later charged with attempted murder and other charges and he remains in jail today, awaiting his day in court.
