As W-2 and 1099 filings comes to an end, we have successfully wrapped up W-2 and 1099 preparation for our clients. We issued 2,527 W-2 forms for 100 payroll clients and 474 1099 forms for 88 bookkeeping clients this month.

We will now switch gears to income tax preparation! We've already had 40+ people drop-off their documents and it is now full steam ahead until April 15th!

Important note to our clients living in the Wapsie Valley School District!!

The Iowa Department of Revenue has officially released the school district surtax rates for tax year 2025 (https://revenue.iowa.gov/media/4382/download?inline).

Wapsie Valley has the 5th highest surtax rate in the state for tax year 2025, coming in at 18% (the maximum the state allows is 20%). For reference, the surtax for tax year 2024 was 9%, meaning it has doubled for 2025.

If you're unfamiliar with what the school district surtax is, it's an additional tax that gets added to your income tax return, which then goes to the school district you live in (regardless if you have kids in the schools).

For example, let's say you had us file your tax return last year and you had a total Iowa tax liability of $7,000 (before the school district surtax). This 18% surtax gets added to that total, which in this example, would increase your total tax liability up to $8,260 (an increase of $1,260).

Long story short, your Iowa income tax liability will increase significantly this year, meaning smaller Iowa refunds or larger amounts owed than you've had in the past.
