So thirsty! How long was he stuck?!?

This little guy was glad to get out of the wall of this townhome. He had fallen down an interior wall and wore himself out trying to climb back out. ***Interior walls seldom have insulation so animals are fighting against a smooth surface to climb up and occasionally are unable to. This is especially true of juvenile squirrels because their claws have not fully developed.

The 'cave rescue' was a success and this adult male squirrel was very glad to get some much needed water and later released into a more suitable environment.

We perform this service every year in homes, especially in the spring and early summer with litters of young being the ones that most often get stuck.

After they are mobile, juvenile red squirrels usually begin exploring the roof space (where they are typically born) getting too close to an interior wall and slipping down inside the cavity. If the female is still nursing the young, she will go back and forth to feed them but once weaned, she will leave them (or kick them out... if they can get out!) to fend for themselves. This is where we come in...

Hearing the sound of little bodies rise and fall as they attempt to climb out of the wall cavity can be a little disconcerting. Combine this with some sibling rivalry that usually comes in the form of bickering, and you have a situation that needs some attention.

We show up, pinpoint the location of the animals and begin the extraction process. We simply cut a hole in the wall and wait (sometimes for extended periods!) for the family (or in this case, the stressed individual) to begin their escape from urban bo***ge. Once we are confident everyone is out, we take them to their natural habitat far, far away so that they will not return.
