Parents RISE
We are survivor parents, and we are calling on Colorado lawmakers to stop ignoring the families who know these harms firsthand. House Bill 1263 does not reflect the voices of parents who have lost children to AI chatbot and online harms. In fact, Colorado HB 1263 was specifically called out during last week’s Senate Judiciary Hearing in Washington, D.C. by survivor parents demanding stronger protections for children online.
“No parent who has lost a child to online harms, especially AI chatbot harms, supports this bill as written,” says Lori Schott, Colorado resident and co-founder of Parents Rise. “We know the damage these systems can do because we have lived it.”
The most heartbreaking part? The families directly impacted by these harms were shut out of the conversation, while Big Tech companies were welcomed into the room. Parents were sidelined while corporations formed the policy.
Colorado families deserve better. We urge Governor Polis to veto HB 1263 and stand with American families over Big Tech.
On May 12th, parents, advocates, and lawmakers gathered for a rally supporting KOSA, the Kids Online Safety Act. Senators from both sides of the aisle spoke in support of stronger online safety protections for children, while survivor parents from across the country shared the tragic impact Big Tech has had on their children. It’s time to pass the Kids Online Safety Act NOW.
We were encouraged to hear Ted Cruz, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation, announce his intent to advance the Senate version of KOSA, the same bipartisan bill that previously passed the Senate in a 91–3 vote. It is critical that this bill moves through the Commerce Committee without being weakened so Leader Thune can bring it to a vote on the Senate floor and finally deliver meaningful protections for our children.
Big Tech knows the harms of their products, they study the addiction, and they design systems to keep kids hooked. Then, they blame the parents.
As a bi-partisan coalition, Parents Rise, along with 100 advocates, traveled to Washington DC to meet with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to demand real accountability.
The question for Congress is simple: are you with Big Tech or are you with American families? It’s time to choose.

Sending love to all of the Angel Mamas today.
We didn’t choose this path, but we walk it together.
We carry our children with us in everything we do...and we fight so others don’t have to know this pain.

Powerful day in New Mexico standing alongside families, advocates, and Attorney General Raúl Torrez as the second phase of the Meta trial begins. Thankful to everyone working to elevate the voices of the parents impacted by social media harms. And thank you to the Institute for Families and Technology for supporting this trip.
Brandy and Toney Roberts lost their daughter Englyn to su***de. After her death, they discovered that her social media algorithm had been feeding her dangerous content for months.
Now, they’re fighting for accountability from Big Tech, so no parent has to face what they did. The verdict in the landmark Meta/Google social media trial last month is one step in the right direction.
Follow to join our fight.

Last week, nearly 100 advocates, mostly survivor parents (parents who lost their children to social media dangers), came to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
The recent trials exposed the truth: internal documents show Big Tech knew the harms of their products, studied the addiction, and designed systems to keep kids hooked. Then, they blamed the parents.
As a bi-partisan coalition, Parents Rise met with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to demand real accountability. We were not just sharing stories. We’re fighting for a future where children are no longer harmed by these platforms.
So the question for Congress is simple: Are you with Big Tech or with American families and our children? It’s time to choose.

Thank you, Rep. Jake Auchincloss, for raising the alarm during last week’s House Energy & Commerce markup on kids’ online safety.
The House version of the Kids Online Safety Act appears to carry Big Tech’s fingerprints and lawmakers should be asking serious questions about why.
When the companies whose products are under scrutiny help shape the rules meant to regulate them, children are the ones who ultimately pay the price.
Members supporting this version of the bill should ask themselves whether it truly protects families — or whether it protects the platforms.
Parents across the country are rising up to demand real safety legislation that holds Predatory Tech accountable for how their products are designed.
And with elections approaching, families are watching closely. Voters want leaders who will stand up for kids...not stand with Big Tech.
