In 1994, farmers in the small town of Hojancha, Costa Rica gathered to address the deforestation threatening their river. The resulting 924-hectare Monte Alto Protected Zone is an amazing example of agriculture, conservation, ecotourism, and water protection in synergy.

In May, Earthopia sponsored a workshop in analog forestry in Hojancha. Forest stewardship sustains village life, so we hope these methods will spread far and wide!
