The Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law is proud to sponsor the ASIL Abroad – Buenos Aires panel, “The Present and Future of Transitional Justice,” hosted by the American Society of International Law (ASIL) in partnership with Universidad Torcuato Di Tella
This timely conversation brings together an exceptional group of experts whose work has shaped the fields of international criminal law, human rights, and transitional justice:
• Professor Juan Ernesto Mendez (American University Washington College of Law), Moderator
• Francisco Cox, Criminal Law Expert; Former GIEI Member; Victims’ Advisor at the International Criminal Court
• Fernanda Doz Costa, Amnesty International
• María José Guembe, Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS)
• Juan Tokatlian, Universidad Torcuato Di Tella
The Center is especially honored that the discussion will be moderated by Professor Juan Ernesto Méndez, a valued member of our Board and one of the world’s foremost authorities on human rights and transitional justice. Throughout a distinguished career spanning decades, Professor Méndez has advanced accountability for serious human rights violations through his leadership as United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, President of the International Center for Transitional Justice, Commissioner of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and as a scholar and educator whose work has influenced legal institutions and practitioners across the globe.
As societies continue to confront the legacies of mass atrocities and authoritarianism, conversations such as this are essential to strengthening the rule of law, advancing accountability, and promoting the protection of human rights worldwide.
The Center is proud to support this important dialogue and the outstanding experts leading it.
