Did you know that Thanksgiving Day is the peak day for home cooking fires? It historically averages more than 3 times the daily average.
While there isn’t a way to completely ensure an accident won’t happen, these basic safety tips can go a long way in reducing the likelihood of one.
✅Make sure you have a fire extinguisher and that it’s in an accessible location. Don’t forget to test its functionality and check the expiration date.
✅Don’t leave your stove or oven unattended while cooking.
✅Keep flammable items like kitchen towels, oven mitts, etc., away from heat sources.
✅Set a timer to remind yourself that the oven is on.
✅Keep children at least 3 feet away from a hot oven.
✅Check for any electric cords that are dangling off the counter.
✅Test your smoke alarms by pushing the test button and replace batteries if needed.
✅Check your kitchen and appliances before leaving your house or going to bed.
Thanksgiving is a time of gratitude and good food, but don’t forget to stay alert.
