Last month we had our newly revamped Basic Shop Carpentry class. Students learned how to use some basic hand tools, battery powered tools, and even a couple of bench mounted ones. The final project was a platform where they learned how to maintain square and various ways to leg it. It's always fun to teach people how to operate lifts when it's chilly and a bit blustery. It is a great way to learn about how to read the area for wind speeds in addition to job site inspections though. It's great to know we have more certified ops who understand the regulations in addition to safe practices.

Earlier this month we were able to hold a forklift cert/re-cert class. It was very last minute and the Fund appreciates the students understanding of how quickly classes can come togwther. At the end of last year we held a couple of Basic Rigging classes where students were able to learn about bridles, hardware, safety, and what can be expected on a rigging call. Basic and Level 2 Electrics classes provide students with the opportunity to work with a variety of types of lights, how to usethem, basic safety when working with electricity, not to mention a little Ohms Law. Ropes and sheaves and lift lines, oh my. Last week students were able to see how a counter weight system works. What all the parts are and how they work within the system. How it feels to pull a rope and how is that different when it's directed by a cue light.
