Up next, MIDN 1/C Joseph Loel, the spring semester Athletics Officer. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, MIDN Loel is a Political Theory major from The Catholic University of America. For the past four years he has been a committed member of both the CUA Men’s Swim team, and the Capital Battalion’s Spec War Club.
Over the past two years, MIDN Loel has studied abroad both in Taiwan as a member of Project Go, and with the CUA study abroad Rome program. There he earned a wealth of knowledge and experience that will serve him well in the Fleet.
Last summer MIDN Loel had the opportunity to go on a highly competitive Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Cruise. From his performance there and his exemplary conduct at the unit, he was selected to be a Special Operations Officer following commissioning. We are greatful for the the leadership and kindheartedness he has imposed on us and look forward to his future service. Initial Success or Total Failure.
Congratulations, and Semper Fortis.

On 08 NOV, the Capital Battalion hosted the Navy and Marine Corps Birthday Ball. In attendance as the Guest of Honor was Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy James Honea. During his remarks, MCPON Honea noted the importance of building connections with those you lead. He recognized MIDN 1/C Sundheim and Bush, MIDN 2/C Morgan, and MIDN 3/C Witzel, all of whom are known for their ability to make an impact on others. In accordance with tradition, the youngest and oldest Sailors and Marines share a piece of cake symbolizing the teamwork across generations. The pieces of cake were shared by MCPON Honea and MIDN 4/C Obikwelu, and Capt. Rocha and MIDN 4/C Loh.
The Navy and Marine Corps Birthday Ball is a time-honored tradition that celebrates and honors the rich history of the services. It provides a forum to recognize the sacrifice of service men and women who came before us while reinforcing the spirit and camaraderie of those in attendance.
Thank you to all that joined to celebrate the Navy and Marine Corps 249th birthday!
