Observing - National Gay Men's HIV/AIDS Awareness Day - September 27th

In 2008, the National Association of People with AIDS launched National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day to recognize the disproportionate impact of the epidemic on gay men. The observance offers an opportunity to raise awareness about stopping HIV stigma and encouraging HIV testing, prevention, and treatment for HIV among gay and bisexual men, who often face multiple challenges—such as racism, homophobia, discrimination, and stigma—which may increase the risk of HIV. Observing - National African Immigrants and Refugee HIV and Hepatitis Awareness Day - September 9th.

September 9 is National African Immigrant and Refugee HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis Awareness Day (NAIRHHA Day). Founded by advocates in Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., and New York, NAIRHHA Day has been observed annually on September 9 by communities, advocates, healthcare professionals, government officials, and other stakeholders since 2014. The purpose of NAIRHHA Day is to bring national and local attention to the HIV and viral hepatitis needs of African immigrants living in the U.S. in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.

By addressing some of the unique issues that African immigrants in the U.S. face through awareness, education, and resources, NAIRHHA Day helps to eliminate the pervasive stigma surrounding HIV and hepatitis in these communities and empower individuals within these communities to take charge of their health by encouraging screenings, treatment, and hepatitis B vaccination.
