Dylan Smith became famous after starring in the reality television series “Love After Lockup,” a show that explores the love lives of individuals after being released from prison. But after a few years of freedom, Smith found himself locked up again for participating in a mail theft scheme.
Smith was originally incarcerated for burglary and narcotics charges, but he was released early in June 2019. He appeared on reality television one year later.
In May 2024, Chicago Postal Inspectors began investigating a series of mail thefts, including theft from a local apartment building. Inspectors obtained surveillance footage that showed a man, later identified as Smith, using a stolen postal key to steal mail from the apartment’s mailboxes.
Working with the Chicago Police Department, Smith was arrested on June 4, 2024. He pleaded guilty to one count of felony burglary and was sentenced to time served, or 244 days, plus two years of supervised release.
Today we pause to remember Special Agent Charles M. Davis who died from wounds he suffered while protecting the U.S. Mail and passengers in 1867.
