Avanza la actualización del PIGECA | Plan Integral de Gestión de la Calidad del Aire 06/19/2026

Nearly a decade ago, the Clean Air Institute joined the Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá (AMVA) in designing the PIGECA 2017–2030 — one of the most comprehensive air quality management plans in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Today, five years before its implementation horizon, that plan is being updated. The AMVA and the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB) are leading a process that evaluates its achievements, integrates the region's climate change goals, and formulates new measures backed by emissions modeling, air quality analysis, and health impact projections.

We remain part of this journey, providing technical support in the development of new measures, health benefit projections, and the preparation of the updated plan document.

👏 We congratulate all the teams involved for their rigor and dedication. The air of the Aburrá Valley matters — and there are committed people working hard for it. 🌿

A new article published by the Environmental Defense Fund explains why Brazil’s new PRONAR could play a major role in improving air quality and reducing health risks across the country.

The analysis includes contributions from the Executive Director of the Clean Air Institute, who highlights the importance of strong implementation, technical capacity, and collaboration between governments, civil society, and experts to turn policy into real impact.

Cleaner air means healthier lives — and stronger climate action too. 🌎💨

Air quality modeling is a critical tool to support evidence-based decision-making, strengthen regulatory frameworks, and design effective strategies to reduce emissions from industrial sources.

As part of the implementation of the Regional Air Quality Action Plan for Latin America and the Caribbean 2022 - 2025, this virtual session focused on building technical capacity in air quality modeling applied to stationary sources.

🔍 The webinar covers:
1️⃣ Core technical principles of air quality modeling
2️⃣ Applications for regulating and controlling industrial emissions
3️⃣ A practical case study of a mining operation in coastal Mexico

The session was held in Spanish with simultaneous interpretation into English and is now available for viewing.
