Disability Pride Month celebrates the history, diversity, and achievements of the disability community. The observance commemorates the 1990 passage of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which promotes visibility and challenges stereotypes.

This month, we're proud to highlight Akemi Nishida, International Fellowship (2014–15); Jessica Suzanne Stokes, American Dissertation Fellowship (2024–25); and the Disability EmpowHer Network, Community Action Grant (2024–25)—members of the AAUW community whose research, advocacy, and leadership are advancing disability justice, expanding opportunities, and building more inclusive communities.

Today, AAUW announced its 2026–2027 class of Fellowships and Grants recipients, awarding a projected $5.4 million to 219 outstanding women scholars, researchers, and community change-makers.
For 145 years, AAUW has invested in women’s education, leadership, and economic security — helping create opportunities for women to thrive in higher education, research, and the workforce.
